This blog presents commentary on the kind of democracy that is emerging in the world. This is not "American democracy," which are code words for US imperialism and a corporate-run election system in the US. We also do not mean "majority rule." As Muslims, we know that only Allah (SWT) truly rules, and our purpose and joy is to submit to the will of Allah (SWT) in all things.

True democracy is the process by which ordinary people organize to acquire political, economic, cultural, and societal power to defeat oppression and work for the Common Good.

Join the discussion. Ask questions or provide alternative views. And join MDAN so we can "do democracy" for the sake of Allah (SWT).

Our Mission:

True democracy is ordinary people who organize to acquire enough power to make dramatic changes in an unjust system to create a common good, or to maintain a just system for the common good. This is what Allah (SWT) wants for our Ummah.

MDAN is committed to organizing American Muslims to carry out what Martin Luther King, Jr. called a fundamental “revolution of values” and to stop our nation from being an oppressive empire and the “greatest purveyor of violence” in the world.

We have seen the people of Tunisia and Egypt organize and effect change, but history shows that the United States government will snatch the possibility of a truly free society away from them—UNLESS American Muslims organize and join with other Americans to fundamentally change our government’s imperialistic policies and actions to ones of peace, justice, and the global common good.
